Blue Dimensions : Uppity Blues Woman Ann Rabson; Terri Lyne Carrington’s provocative “Money Jungle”
In this hour of Blue Dimensions, we’ll hear from Ann Rabson, singer, songwriter, pianist, and guitarist, former member of Saffire The Uppity Blues Women, who died on January 30th at age sixty-seven. Rabson and her partners in the three-woman group Saffire were a novelty act to be sure, though their work has much more staying power (or “gravitas” to use a pretty heavy word describing a group known for its humor) than the term “novelty act” usually suggests. Ann Rabson was both funny and dead serious, and a true social commentator, not to mention a great musician. We’ll hear her with Saffire and as a solo act. Also Terri Lyne Carrington celebrates the 50th anniversary of Duke Ellington’s “Money Jungle” album with an update “Money Jungle: Provocative In Blue,” and we have new music from former Tonight Show band leader and guitarist Kevin Eubanks, and French jazz chanteuse Virginie Teychené.
Blue Dimensions: A program of blues, jazz, and other kindred forms of music.Blue Dimensions is a weekly one-hour program of blues, jazz, and other related styles of music, focusing on present-day artists and songs, though with a certain nod to the past and the great history of the music.
